Trump Vows to Unveil JFK Files as RFK Jr. Joins Campaign
Donald Trump has pledged to release thousands of documents related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, following an endorsement from JFK’s nephew, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. RFK Jr., who was once a rival in the 2024 presidential race, suspended his campaign and publicly backed Trump during a rally in Glendale, Arizona. This unexpected alliance was met with cheers and fireworks, though the Kennedy family criticized the endorsement, calling it a “betrayal” of their values.
During the rally, Trump praised Kennedy for running an “extraordinary campaign” while acknowledging their past differences. RFK Jr., 70, hinted that Trump might offer him a role if he returns to the White House, though no specifics were provided. Trump also announced plans to establish a “new independent presidential commission on assassination attempts,” which would investigate the attempt on his life in July and require the release of all remaining documents related to JFK’s 1963 assassination. Despite over 60 years passing since the event, around 4,700 files remain partially or heavily redacted.
Kennedy, son of Senator Bobby Kennedy who was assassinated in 1968, joined Trump in highlighting issues like free speech, corruption, and the war in Ukraine as areas of agreement. Trump described Kennedy as “brilliant,” noting his past criticisms. However, Kennedy will only remove his name from ballots in swing states, allowing his supporters to back him in less critical areas. He suggested his presence in the race could hurt Trump and benefit Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, although public polls have not confirmed a significant impact.
